Chiropractic for Children

Optimize your children’s health and development.

Why Work With a Pediatric Chiropractor?

Whether your child is hours old or heading off to college (or any of the stages in between), having a pediatric chiropractor on your health care team provides countless benefits for growing a healthy, thriving child.

Children today experience a lot of stress. From a challenging birth to growing pains, illness, medications, dietary issues, and emotional stress, our kids develop a protective response in their bodies and a tension within the musculature that supports their spine. These tight muscles can misalign the spine, which we call a subluxation.

Chiropractic for Infants

The birth process can put pressure on your newborn’s neck and spine. We see many babies that come out of the womb wound up tight. A misaligned spine can impair nerve function in your baby, causing various issues and inhibiting natural development. Gentle manipulation helps to align the spine and release muscle restrictions. Often our patients notice a calmer, happier baby before they even leave the office (followed shortly after by a big BM and a big nap!).

Regular adjustments for toddlers and young children allow their nervous system and spine to grow optimally and without interference. We focus on working to improve a child’s immune system and to encourage nerve and brain development. We aim to promote proper perception and awareness, preventing labels such as ADHD, Sensory Integration Disorder (SPD), and other neurodevelopmental disorders.

Chiropractic for Teens

As school gets more intense, backpacks get heavier, and often athletics become more competitive, we see increased value in regular chiropractic care for teens. Chiropractic care can support your teen through colds and infections as well as help optimize their athletic performance and aid in preventing or recovering from injuries.

What to Expect on Your First Visit

  • History: get to know you and your body through intake paperwork and discussion (how was the birth process; any past traumas, injuries, or concerns)
  • Posture analysis: checking for symmetry, shoulder height, level hips, head carriage, leg lengths
  • Range of motion and functional movement assessment: touch your toes, do a back bend, squat, turn your head both ways the same, where are the tight spots
  • Palpation: feel your spine and muscles to determine what is normal and what needs attention

Treatment Procedures

Our practitioners may use a variety of the following:

  • Torque release technique: gentle neurological assessment and adjustments using an adjusting tool
  • Gonstead: manual adjusting where you might hear your joints “pop” or “crack”
  • Motion palpation: moving your joints to restore proper function (feels like stretching)
  • Nimmo technique: addressing trigger points or knots in your muscles
  • Koren specific technique: very gentle method for assessing and adjusting with a tool
  • Thompson drop: using a specialized table that assists with adjustments and movement, so there is no twisting and less pressure
