Should I Take My Child to a Chiropractor?

Well, you are asking a chiropractor, so of course my answer is a resounding “Yes!” So, it is probably more helpful to look into why parents should bring their kids to see a chiropractor.

For most of my patients, they first seek chiropractic care because they want pain relief after an accident or sports injury, or they are experiencing neck or back pain. However, my patients who are most passionate about cultivating great health start chiropractic care from birth.

Benefits of Chiropractic for Infants

If you think about it, babies have the same spine and nervous system as adults. Consider how much more important it is to make sure they develop properly even before developing any symptoms. Children today are over-stressed more than ever before. From a challenging birth, to medications, vaccines, dietary issues, and emotional stress, our kids develop a protective response in their bodies and a tension within their musculature that supports their spine. These tight muscles can misalign the spine, which we call a subluxation. This is primarily what I treat first when children visit the office.

Even though I highly recommend chiropractic care starts at birth, it has value throughout the entire lifespan.

Chiropractic Throughout Childhood

I see newborns to promote proper growth and development and to limit health challenges, such as issues with nursing and reflux, and to limit colic and constipation

I adjust toddlers and young children to allow their nervous system and spine to grow optimally and without interference. We want to reduce ear infections, bed wetting, asthma, and allergies

As they progress through school, we focus on working to improve a child’s immune system and to encourage nerve and brain development. I want to promote proper perception and awareness, preventing labels such as ADHD, Sensory Integration Disorder (SPD), and other neurodevelopmental disorders.

As your kids get older, we want to be proactive about your child’s overall health and wellbeing, which will limit and support them through colds and infections — allowing them to meet their optimal, God-given potential.

Once they begin participating in sports and activities, I love finding ways to optimize their performance and prevent or recover from injuries. One of my passions is working with athletes to ensure their body is performing at an optimal level and to prevent pain and injuries that take them away from activities they love.

As a parent myself (dad of four: ages 7, 4, and twins under 1), I understand how fast kids grow up and how the time slips away when they are under our care. As a chiropractor, I encourage every parent to do everything you can to ensure your children are as healthy as possible while they are dependent on you. These are the habits they will carry through the rest of their lives, so starting young and making it a routine is important.

All of my kiddos have been under chiropractic care since they were born. However, even if your kid is older and new to chiropractic, it is never too late to give them the head start, starting today.
