Carol’s Comeback: From Debilitating Knee and Thigh Pain to Regained Vitality

Woman holding knee in pain

Imagine blacking out at a museum and waking up eight hours later to find yourself at a hospital, with no answers as to what happened. It sounds like the beginning of a medical thriller television series, but for Carol, it was real life.

“The doctors at the hospital did lots of tests but couldn’t figure out what happened. At first, they thought maybe it was vertigo. But when I went to follow up with another doctor to investigate that theory, they couldn’t replicate it,” explains Carol. She was left without answers.

Fortunately, Carol’s work friend recommended Dr. Rob at Valeo.

“I explained to Dr. Rob what had happened. He also couldn’t replicate the dizziness/vertigo, so we went through his functional medicine techniques to see what could be going on. He uncovered some issues with my gut health and inflammation, and recommended some supplements and dietary adjustments that helped me attain a healthier lifestyle.”

Carol did not experience any other blacking out episodes, and it wasn’t until several years later that she found herself back in Dr. Rob’s office, but this time for something completely unrelated.

“In 2022, I went on a trip to Canada. There was lots of sitting involved (for example, on the flight, driving around, sitting for meals, etc.). By the time I got home and off the airplane I was in so much pain that I could hardly walk,” shares Carol. “Initially, I thought I’d get better in a few days… but I didn’t. It felt like I had a knife in my right thigh and right side of my knee. It was bad.”

Searching for a Solution

Since Carol grew up with western medicine, her first thought was to go to an orthopedic surgeon, as she had knee replacement several years prior. They took an x-ray, and said everything looked fine.

The lack of answers was frustrating. “Resting helped, but I didn’t want to be bound to a wheelchair! After a month, I asked for a referral to a physical therapist, and he helped me a lot but I was still on the verge of using a cane.”

So what did Carol do? Kept searching!

“I then went to my regular GP and they did another x-ray and recommended seeing their orthopedic surgeon. I was told again that nothing was wrong physically, and recommended a massage gun,” says Carol, who at that point was starting to lose hope.

“After those attempts, I hit myself upside the head and asked why didn’t I think of Dr. Rob?! So I went back to Dr. Rob, did some blood work, and described things to him.. And of course he could figure it out! I had an infection behind my right knee which he gave me FCT remedies for. He also determined that my body was not responding well to one of the medications the medical doctor had put me on and that it was accumulating in my right thigh.”

It took several months of taking Dr. Rob’s remedies and cutting out the medication, but Carol was finally starting to feel the difference.

“I could feel from the knee to the top of my thigh as the pain and inflammation left! I could tell it was gone,” excitedly shares Carol.

The journey wasn’t over, however.

Regaining Strength

“At that point, we had cleared out the infection and inflammation, but I wasn’t healed completely because I still needed to regain strength. At Dr. Rob’s recommendation, I started seeing Dr. Jon, who did chiropractic treatments on my back and neck, but also worked on my thigh and whole right leg. He found that my left leg was fine but my right leg was “weird”, so he did e-stim therapy and gave me exercises to do at home,” explains Carol.

“I’m so happy… it took a couple months but I am back to my exercise goal that I had been doing before Canada, so I can do 15 minutes on the bike and 15 minutes on the elliptical every day!”

“Looking back, I am still shocked that two orthopedic surgeons told me x-rays were fine and that they couldn’t help. Dr. Jon and Dr. Rob were the ones who helped me figure out what to do and finally gave me pain relief,” says Carol, grateful for the unique techniques and approaches they took to help her.

Feeling Respected, Welcomed, and Understood

On top of being a place where Carol has consistently experienced healing, it is a place where she has always felt welcomed.

“I’ve always been treated very well at Valeo, with lots of respect and understanding. The front desk staff are great and helpful, too. They [the whole staff] are all good and the new office is so beautiful!” exclaims Carol. “I would recommend Valeo without hesitation.”
