A Few of Our Favorite Supplements

With the abundance of supplements available on the market today, how do you know which ones to choose? It can be difficult – even paralyzing – to make the decision. We interviewed the practitioners at our office to learn which supplements are their favorites.

Keep reading to hear what Dr. Rob, Dr. Aaron, and Elizabeth have to say about several of the supplements available from Valeo Health and Wellness Center.

Max B (duh!)

“B vitamins are crucial for optimal health, energy, handling stress, liver detoxification, heart health and mood balance, yet deficiencies are very common.” – Dr. Rob

“Many people who start taking a Vitamin B Complex like Max B see a big improvement in their energy.” – Elizabeth, FMCHC

Read how Max B changed Rhoda’s life and brought back Dr. Rob’s sense of joy.

HCL

Dr. Rob said that if he was stranded on a deserted island and could only take 1 supplement it would be Premier HCL.  Why?

“HCL sterilizes your food (kills critters), signals the gallbladder to pump bile into your small intestine so you can break down the fats you eat, and breaks down your proteins into their small amino acid building blocks so that you can more readily absorb your proteins.”

“Digestion is INCREDIBLY important! If you aren’t breaking down your food, you’re not getting the awesome nutrients it contains to help support your health.” – Elizabeth

Fermented Cod Liver Oil

“This oil is a rich source of vitamins A and D, both of which are not easily obtained at optimal levels with our modern diets and lifestyles. Additionally, Fermented Cod Liver Oil offers a hearty supply of the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA, otherwise known as the “Omega 3s.”” – Dr. Rob

“I have a client who dealt with knee pain, and after starting Fermented Cod Liver Oil, her knee feels great! Omega-3 fatty acids are important for health, and unfortunately a lot of people’s diets consist of too low of a ratio of Omega-3 to Omega-6 fatty acids. This can be problematic, as there is evidence that a high omega-6 fatty acid diet inhibits the anti-inflammatory effect of omega-3 fatty acids. Evening out that ratio can be really beneficial!” – Elizabeth

Therbiotic Complete

“Therbiotic Complete is a fantastic broad spectrum probiotic that includes 12 different strains of beneficial bacteria for optimizing gut health.” – Dr. Rob

“Good gut health is pivotal. Having a diverse gut microbiome can support overall health – which is why probiotics are ‘all the rage’ lately. We make sure we carry high-quality probiotics at our office, because the quality definitely matters.” – Elizabeth

Turmero XL

“This is a great anti-inflammtory supplement… especially if you have an autoimmune disease.  If you do, you need to be on it!” – Dr. Aaron

Congaplex

“This is used to help with congestion from colds/flu’s… definitely a good one to have on hand this time of year!” – Dr. Rob

“We can tell just by how popular this supplement is among our patients that it makes a big difference during cold and flu season.” – Elizabeth

Catalyn

“This is a great whole food multi-vitamin.” – Dr. Rob

“Certain foods today are actually less nutritious than they were years ago, thanks to growing practices and changes in soil. A multi-vitamin can help you to make sure you’re getting enough of the vitamins and minerals your body needs to function optimally.” – Elizabeth, FMCHC

GI Revive

“This is used to help repair a leaky gut by supplying L-glutamine and several gut healing herbs.” – Dr. Rob

“Supporting gut health is key. Hippocrates said “all disease begins in the gut” – and he’s right that the gut has a HUGE tie to your overall health. For people who suspect, or have been diagnosed with leaky gut, this is a supplement that is worth looking into.” – Elizabeth

Clearvite

“Clearvite can be used as a powder multi-vitamin, multi-mineral in your morning smoothie, but also contains herbs and phytonutrients that help with liver detoxification.” – Dr. Rob

“Let’s talk liver detoxification. If your liver isn’t doing a great job at detoxifying, that has a major effect on your body. What would happen if your dishwasher wasn’t draining properly? It mucks up everything inside! If your body isn’t detoxifying, issues will arise.” – Elizabeth

Patients love ClearVite, too! Check out some of their success stories:

  1. Losing weight, gaining energy and self-esteem
  2. Improved cholesterol numbers

Digestive enzymes

“Digestive enzymes are great for breaking down your proteins, fats, and carbohydrates so you can absorb your food.” – Dr. Rob

“It seems like these days, a lot of people’s digestion is working sub-optimally. Whether it’s from busy/stressful lives, hurried eating, environmental interference, what-have-you, we are seeing a lot of patients who need an assist with digestion. I found that when I started on certain digestive enzymes (shout-out here to Enzymix Pro), my bloating drastically decreased, my bowel movements improved, and it even had an impact on my hormones (less PMS!!) because it helped my body to actually eliminate some excess estrogen” – Elizabeth

Glutathione

“Glutathione is the body’s most powerful anti-oxidant.  It helps to combat free-radical damage and is critical for detoxification.” – Dr. Rob

“So many functional medicine practitioners preach the benefits of glutathione – for good reason. It can be found in nearly every cell of your body and has a host of benefits that make it worth looking into.” – Elizabeth

NucleoImmune

“Nucleoimmune contains nucleotides, which are the building blocks of DNA.  Keep this supplement in your cabinet and start taking at the first sign of cold or flu.” – Dr. Rob

“Again – the popularity of this supplement is telling. We have a hard time keeping this one on the shelf, especially during cold and flu season!” – Elizabeth

Vitamin D

“Like the fulcrum that a teeter-totter balances on, vitamin D modulates (keeps in balance) the two sides of your immune system.” – Dr. Rob

“I know many people with autoimmune diseases that are deficient in Vitamin D. Knowing what we do about Vitamin D’s role in the immune system, this isn’t surprising!” – Elizabeth

Adaptogens

“Adaptogens help you “adapt” to stress by affecting the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal axis, otherwise known as your stress cycle.” – Dr. Rob

Gastroven

“GastroVen™ is a powerful blend of bromelain enzymes that support  the stomach and digestion.  The ginger in it helps to cleanse the colon, fight inflammation and stimulates circulation.”  – Dr. Rob
